I liiike to think that we just have a really really vocal minority who are. Like there was an uproar a couple years back when we finally allowed stores to be open on Sunday mornings. And when we got pop in cans instead of bottles. And when we built a bridge. And we had prohibition until 1948(?!).
The pro-life lobby is huge and well-organized and we’re nationally known as a ~life sanctuary~ or whatever because there are no legal abortions performed here. The (Liberal?!) provincial government is unwilling to change the status quo. There are anti-abortion demonstrations here often enough as it is.
But that being said we also have a vibrant and active artsy / liberal / environmentalist side to our culture, which is what I try to focus on most when I think about Islanders haha.
